The Crown

Quartz that met iron and became something else.

A large faceted amethyst held in a raised gold-plated claw setting, the prongs formed by hand so they sit slightly unevenly around the stone — more crown than cage.

Amethyst is quartz that happened to have iron in it when it formed, and then met natural radiation underground. The purple is not the stone's own color. It is the result of a chemical accident that nobody planned and nobody could repeat exactly.

This is the ring for rebuilding, and it makes the useful point: what she has become is not what she would have designed. It came out of the specific conditions, including the bad ones.

Sits high on the hand. The stone is faceted deeply enough to throw color across your fingers in sunlight.
