Nobody asks a lion to explain itself.

A lion's head in solid relief, mane worked strand by strand, the face domed and deliberately unfussy. No stones. The whole piece is one form.

Lions have guarded doors for about three thousand years — on gates, on steps, on either side of an entrance. Always in pairs, always facing out, and never doing anything. The point was never that the lion would act. It was that you would think twice.

This is the ring for the stage where she stops explaining her boundaries and simply holds them. The difference between a fence and an argument.

Care

Last on, first off. After perfume, hand cream and hairspray; before the shower, the pool, the sea and the dishes. Store it dry in its pouch. Brass darkens over time and at a different rate on everybody — a soft dry cloth brings it back.
