Slate is mud that was buried, compressed and heated until it became something you could build a roof from. The layers are still visible in it — the compression didn't erase the history, it just made it structural.

This is the ring for the stage where the hard years have stopped being something that happened to her and started being what she is made of.

Flat enough for everyday wear and one of the easier large pieces to live with.
